Regenerate Africa

From Regen Living Ecosystem Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Regenerate Africa is a regenerative ecosystem campaign in Africa through the SEEDS Changemakers Program and the SEEDS community. It is in partnership with hyper-local SEEDS projects in Uganda and Kenya. It’s purpose is to co-create hyper-local models of regenerative culture and civilization, utilizing the SEEDS and Partnerism cultural and economic platform.

How to contribute?

  • Contribute Seeds to the program directly to @regenafrica1. All contributions are tracked here.

Why?

  1. It provides a way for those with a significant amount of Seeds to make a significant impact in regenerative projects - today - leveraged by the SEEDS community and its programs.
  2. It provides developing countries/underestimated bioregions with the resources they need now that Seeds simply can't buy, like a community computer, projector, and internet data to participate in this Discord forum and learn about SEEDS through the videos 30 people at a single sitting.
  3. It allows those in SEEDS that want to build relationships with those in these underestimated bioregions the ability to do so for the first time. Right now they can't even participate in the video calls because internet access is three day's pay.

How?

  1. Three projects in underestimated bioregions in Uganda and Kenya state what they've already done in SEEDS, what they're going to do, why they're limited, what they need, and the expenses they need covered in fiat in order to grow the SEEDS ecosystem by hundreds of participants.
  2. We are hosting a traditional crowdfunding campaign starting in a week or so, to raise $12,000 USD fiat. We will provide rewards for $1000+ contributions with matching Seeds value (12,000 Seeds for every $1000 donated).
  3. We are hosting a 120,000 Seed seedraising campaign to provide those rewards.

Accountability?

We have close relationships with Paulinho Muzaliwa, Paulinho Muzaliwa, Mariam Antoine, Phelix Obar and Paul Kotieno, all native Africans, all of whom have spent hundreds of hours supporting SEEDS in their community, and their limited resources on SEEDS calls. The SEEDS Changemaker program, of which they are all members, will oversee the program and provide a permanent wiki documenting their progress with these contributions. They will also have permanent Discord channels for each of their projects in the Changemaker Discord, so people can ask questions, be updated directly.

Project recipient requirements

Are nonprofits involved?

We are seeking nonprofit partners. By expanding this program through a 501c3 fiscal sponsor, people would have a place to send fiat contributions, also receiving tax deductions on their donations, and the program would be qualified to receive grants (foundations and corporate social programs typically only donate to 501c3s).

How can I help?

Be part of its co-creation and stewardship at the #regenerate-africa channel in the SEEDS Changemakers Discord or #developing-countries channel in the SEEDS Discord.

Projects

SEEDS education at Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda

Nakivale seeds.jpg
  • Organization: Unidos Social Innovation Center, Uganda - A refugee-led organization that supports marginalized at-risk youth in the Nakivale Refugee Settlement. In the Isingiro district of South West Uganda, it is home to 119,587 refugees from Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, and South Sudan.
  • Contact: Paulinho Muzaliwa, Mariam Antoine
  • What has your organization accomplished so far in SEEDS? We have onboarded 180 people into the SEEDS ecosystem, training 30 people in growing their own food through permaculture design and principles. They are growing their own gardens photos link|video link and inviting others to the SEEDS ecosystem.
  • What SEEDS proposal was approved and when? Our Unidos Social Innovation Center proposal was approved in August 2021: proposal link. We aim to empower young refugees through appropriate training and teach them inclusive entrepreneurial skills that enable them to create their own opportunities, to transform these young refugees into changemakers. Our goal is to educate 100 people who will be able to support 1000 participants in the SEEDS ecosystem.
  • Why we need help: People do not have the resources for smartphones, or even community laptops, to open and monitor SEEDS accounts, and to participate in the global SEEDS ecosystem calls and educational offerings.
  • Request: $1800: Five laptops at $210 each ($1050); $150 modem; $600/year cellular data plan
  • What is Unidos’s purpose? Our purpose is to ensure that our refugees have a standard livelihood and quality education that enables them to create their opportunities and regenerative projects to establish self reliance and sovereignty.
  • Why is Unidos doing this work? We can't solve our global challenges with our old mindset that exploits our home and continuously destroys all of us. Through our work, we can testify that these are the smartest people we ever meet when it comes to innovation, mutual learning, care, respect of the human beings. Sadly we don't have the adequate financial support and sensemaking tools to contribute to the regeneration of our mother Earth. We continue to measure the growth of our economies based on profit indicators that allow the destruction of our ecosystem. This is why we started planning how to measure the well being of our planet including all of its inhabitants. Let's rethink the system's values to catapult all of us into a better and sustainable future, creating new metrics that represent access to quality education, clean water, nutritious and healthy food, and thriving biodiversity.
  • What are Unidos’s values and/or principles? Unity, Innovation, transparency and respect.
Unidos empowerment circle.jpg
  • What is Unidos’s mission statement? To empower young refugees through appropriate training and teach them inclusive entrepreneurial skills that will enable them to create their own opportunities after achieving their empowerment circle (see image).
  • What does daily work look like? (What would a video camera be recording?) We have daily sessions that our certified beneficiaries and scholars offer through different programs that enable us to reach our vision. Examples are four-month courses in permaculture design and entrepreneurship and leadership skills, to support our empowerment circle and ensure their projects will impact our communities and create opportunities not only for you but also for others. We actually need a video camera to record testimonies of all these activities, and make sure everyone will be heard when it is time to create a better future for everyone, no matter the place you are, and show the world how we are transforming our difficult situation into successful stories.
  • What is the Unidos’s vision? Transforming refugee camps into regenerative communities where everyone will be self sustainable.
  • What are the org’s primary and secondary goals?
    • Transforming these young refugees into changemakers who will drive sustainable development goals and encourage peace.
    • Provide quality education to refugees and equip them with adequate tools that will enable them to learn in a positive environment and paying forward what they have been learning.
    • Connect refugees with the other network which can support their initiatives( projects) in different ways.
    • Onboard refugees into the digital world and a regenerative cryptocurrency, like SEEDS.
  • How is Unidos and its projects regenerative? Please be specific in a way anyone reading this can easily understand how. After capacity building we assume that every scholar who completed our empowerment circle is able to design a project. We will be selecting and supporting at least four projects per year based on their impact measurement: how many people this project will be empowering by providing different opportunities, job creation and their innovation.
