Introductory Questions[edit]
What is SEEDS?[edit]
SEEDS is a decentralized financial system based on regenerative values, governed directly by the citizens. It is the collective name for the protocols, accounts and smart contracts that make up this new ecosystem. It is designed to finance a regenerative economy by subsidizing and rewarding regenerative practices (social, environmental, financial and other domains), campaigns, and solutions; aligning business incentives towards regeneration; providing grants for regenerative projects and campaigns; and empowering local and circular economies through subsidizing the transition to regenerative industries.
What is the legal formation of SEEDS?[edit]
SEEDS is organized as a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). A DAO is an entity with no central leadership, where decisions are made from the bottom-up, governed by a community organized around a specific set of rules enforced on a blockchain. DAOs are internet-native organizations collectively owned and managed by their members. Wikipedia defines DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) as an organization represented by rules encoded as a transparent computer program, controlled by the organization members, and not influenced by a central government. As the rules are embedded into the code, no managers are needed, thus removing any bureaucracy or hierarchy hurdles. SEEDS utilizes a human-centric version of DAO known as DHO (Decentralized_Human_Organization).
What is the purpose for SEEDS?[edit]
To serve the Regenerative Renaissance by co-creating economic, governance, and financial systems for regenerative and thriving civilisations.
Why and how is SEEDS connected to the environment?[edit]
SEEDS is open-source, transparent, and consists of the leading edge protocols and tools of decentralized economics and governance. All this is designed to focus and align the fragmented, yet immense, power of our various global movements aimed at creating regenerative civilizations, as defined in its Constitution. It is a platform for a truly ‘conscious currency’; one that aligns the interests of funders, users, founders, beneficiaries, earth and contributors as we come together to co-create a new future. It offers an open platform to create regenerative ‘operating systems’ for humanity and the planet.
What am I expected to do in the SEEDs ecosystem?[edit]
It depends on how active you would like to be in contributing to a more regenerative world. The most active vote on and submit proposals that support a regenerative economy and civilization, as outlined here.
What should I expect from the SEEDS ecosystem?[edit]
The SEEDS Constitution's Foundation section explains this well.
Reversing Inequality[edit]
What is the Gini coefficient of SEEDS?[edit]
What is the Gini coefficient (measure of income inequality) of SEEDS individual and DHO account holders? Of all the individual account holders in SEEDS, how much do the top 1% own?
How does SEEDS address inequality in itself?[edit]
How does SEEDS avoid replicating global inequality where the top 1% owns 43% of all personal wealth, while the bottom 50% own only 1%? What prevents any individual from hoarding Seeds beyond their needs, something that does not occur in nature? How can SEEDS support a low Gini coefficient of inequality among its own members?
There are multiple components to address this, including:
- Individual wealth distribution -
- Governance - Decision-making influence is based on a scale of 0-99 among the least to the most active participants, with 50 being the average score of all participants. This means SEEDizens with the highest ranking in contribution have no more than twice the decision-making influence of the average SEEDizen.
Does SEEDS have any kind of Universal Basic Income component?[edit]
Currently no. There are multiple discussions on it in the SEEDS Discord server.
Does SEEDS have any kind of system to discourage hoarding?[edit]
Currently no. One example would be for individual accounts that control a disproportionate amount of SEEDS to have a marginal number above what is deemed 'regenerative' to begin depreciating, or be perishable, as in nature.
Financial[edit]
How do we know Seeds is going to become a legitimate currency (e.g. be equivalent in worth to the US Dollar)?[edit]
SEEDS has a large exponentially growing global community of over 1000 active participants among 7000, who are dedicated to ensuring Seeds becomes a legitimate currency.
When will SEEDS 'Go Live'?[edit]
'Go Live' requires a series of targets to be reached, including but not limited to:
- SEEDS contracts passing robust economic and security audits and tests;
- Fully operational decentralized governance over every aspect of SEEDS;
- N number of organizational allies;
- N number of Residents and Citizens;
- N number of regions represented;
- N monthly Organisation and Member growth rate;
- A USD to Seeds price floor of at least $0.80 per Seed;
- N daily volume (liquidity) for Seeds across all exchanges.
These targets “N” will be defined and ratified by the Citizens before Hypha DHO's final milestone (Q3/Q4 2021) through decentralized governance. Once these targets are reached, the Citizens can activate ‘Go Live’ through a vote.
Developing Countries[edit]
What are the benefits of accepting payment in Seeds?[edit]
Just like seeds itself, there is little to no immediate benefit in terms of Fiat money (our default currency). The Seeds currency is a long-term investment in growing a regenerative economy, and are meant to be planted and supported over time. However, especially for the underprivileged like refugee communities, Seeds enables a global bank account on your mobile device, and the ability for people to directly contribute Seeds to that account. This becomes significant as Seeds is expected to increase from $.09 in value to the US dollar in the summer of 2021 to $.80 of the US dollar when it officially enters the world of currencies in a few years.
Proposals[edit]
How can I see examples of past Proposals?[edit]
You can find more proposals in the SEEDS Global Passport, clicking on “Co-Op” at the bottom of your Global Passport, check the open proposals, passed, staged and failed proposals to get a better sense of how the SEEDS community flows.
[edit]
Campaigns are aimed to give as a gift a little amount of Seeds (50-100) to many people. In this case if the Proposal Pass you'll get the Seeds within 4 lunar cycles from the at the end of the voting cycle. Alliance share is about asking Seeds to establish a connection between the organization and SEEDS and also to empower the organization to kickstart certain projects where SEEDS/Seeds are involved. In this case the Seeds remain in escrow, and will be distributed after the Go Live event.
Are there any hard criteria for campaigns?[edit]
Right now, there are only recommendations. There were campaigns that passed the vote of the Citizens for supporting projects (art, reforestation, workshops), growing food, good deeds, and starting a local economy based on Seeds, etc. The voice of Citizens is the one to pass the proposal or not. So you can propose the same thing as a previous Campaign and you may have a different result than the previous. What should be considered is that instant cash-out from Seeds to FIAT will not help the person that is receiving the Seeds and neither the SEEDS Ecosystem at this moment while the movement is growing.
Are the people proposing the campaign also responsible for sending the invites/rewards to the people eligible.[edit]
If so, is that done manually (i.e. creating the invites and sending them)? A campaign can be promoted by an individual or by an organization. During the process you need to define the receiving account of those Seeds. Organization accounts can be controlled by multiple individuals. So as a promoter you don't need to do that process of sending invites by yourself, you can share the Private key to some other member of the organization to manage the funds and invites. The process of sending invites is currently manual but in the next release of the Passport App, organizations will be able to send bulk invites to many people.
Can I reward with Seeds the people who are working for the Campaign, and if yes, how much?[edit]
If you plan to only send Seeds invitations and leave the work of onboarding support to the team of SEEDS Ambassadors we recommend to not include a remuneration in the Campaign budget. This is because those who send the invites will receive a reward for each visitor that becomes a resident or citizen (in April 2021 this is 750 Seeds for a resident and 1250 Seeds for a citizen). In case instead you plan to directly empower your community by organizing activities, workshops, etc, then you can include in the budget a reward for your team, the Proposal Nursery facilitators will be able to support to define the amount.
Appendix[edit]
- Are we deeply listening to everyone? If not, is it because it's impractical to do so, or because we're just not interested in knowing what the collective thinks? There are contemporary solutions that are readily available, like
Sensemaking, or deep/Level 4 listening, presencing, collective presencing, or in other words, actually integrating the meaningful stories of every participant effectively and efficiently.
- Why does SEEDS only have 500 accounts with at least 1000 Seeds? That is not nearly enough to be a legitimate currency. How many do we need to present as such? 'Tens of thousands'? 100K? 1 million?
- Why are there little to no active Alliances in SEEDS? Alliances cannot ethically invite anyone into SEEDS. Not only does 20% of a non-optional invite referral reward go to an individual instead of the organization, which is already considered unethical for a nonprofit, but it goes to the person who referred the person who created the organization account, who often doesn't know the organization even exists.
- What Alliances have been funded? How many Alliances requesting at least how many Seeds are needed to Go Live?
